I don't know who he was or why he was in dress uniform. I can't even tell you what branch he served. He rushed to open the door for me as I left the market yesterday. I smiled and said, "Thanks". Then I stopped and turned back. "I don't know who you are or where you've been or even where you're going, but from the bottom of my heart, thank you." The look of wonder on his face was priceless. I thought about my father and brother, Air Force, my cousin, Marines, my nephew, Coast Guard and dear friends who serve their country without pause.
The soldier grinned from ear to ear. "You're welcome, ma'am." We went our separate ways. It was one of those simple encounters that you know somehow, you'll never forget.
Life is funny that way.
