Out of 535 Seats in the 112th U.S. Congress, only 93 are held by women, ( 76 in the House, 17 in the Senate). Hispanic Americans and Asian Americans hold 2 seats in the Senate, respectively. There are no African Americans currently holding seats in the U.S. Senate.
Conclusion: Equal representation in Congress is a pipe dream. Women are half the population in this country and are represented by only 20% of the governing leadership. That appears to be taxation without equal representation.
We should not be surprised to learn that we are still considered the inferior sex. The current efforts to “keep women in their place” is not a new situation. It’s an ongoing conflict.
Women were once beaten and bloodied simply because they asked for the right to vote. Thanks to the Suffragettes, we do have that right. Now, it is our privilege, our responsibility and our duty to vote qualified women into positions of leadership in this country.
The war isn’t over and there are still battles to be won.
